In Memory of Carol Cain...(1945-2010)

Just this side of Heaven is a place called the Rainbow Bridge

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

Carol Cain With My Girl, one of hundreds of cats Carol helped to rescue.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

A message from Judge Jerry

I have some information for Hobo Hotel for Cats volunteers and supporters. As you know, Roni Kemerly was our Board of Directors president for 2009. What a wonderful, trusted servant. Meow. She will remain on the Board to work with our new president, Shanna Garofolo, in 2010.

Shanna has been a volunteer with Hobo Hotel for two and a half years. She and her son, Andrew, began with the TLC program in 2007. They moved to the adoptions program at Petsmart on Fridays and started cleaning at the Care Center every other Sunday. She now coordinates all of our on-line adoption activities. Shanna accepted being a Board member nine months ago and is now the President! I am delighted to have such a loving, caring, and dedicated to all kittens person be our president. Purr.

Your hard work paid off!

Your endless clicking has reaped a huge reward for the cats and kittens of the Hobo Hotel!

As a result of the efforts of so many, the Hobo Hotel for Cats won 1st place in the Shelter Challenge for the entire state and 54th in the entire nation..

It was nip and tuck until the end, but we prevailed!

Given that nearly 200 shelters in Louisiana and over 8000 across the country competed for this prize makes us  immensely proud of this accomplishment and so very appreciative for the efforts of the many who took the time to vote and to encourage others to join in the cause.

The $1,000 prize money will be put to good use. Thanks again!

Cool Breezes by John Ervin

Dear Rita,

The cool weather sure is nice for our outside cats. I would like to know why animal lovers can't really get folks involved in spaying and neutering their animals. All animal groups talk about this. At Animal Control y'all have a low cost spay/neutering program for folks on government subsidy.  There are USA Spay certificates, low-cost programs such as what we offer and we've even run ads in the paper. Somehow we need another way to make folks understand What ideas do you have that might help?

As always,

John Ervin

Dear John,

Spaying and neutering is the number one thing you can do for your pet.  If your pet is fixed. thank you.

One additional thing you can do in the name of helping cats is to sponsor another...meaning make a donation to have another's cat fixed.  Just fixing one cat will stop hundreds from being born.
